In an interview with An-Nahar newspaper published on Thursday, Energy Minister Gebran Bassil said that Batroun—the northern town he resides in—will likely witness an electoral showdown during the upcoming May 30 municipal elections.
He added that opponents of the Free Patriotic Movement—which he is a member of—were recently holding meetings in the night aimed at intervening in the elections and obstructing consensus in the city.
“They want a political battle, let it be,” Bassil also said.
